
Sheryl C. Allen
1935-2007
Sherry Allen has finally received eternal peace. She was born August 4, 1935 in Carroll, Iowa to Warren O. and Madge (Carty) Conner and died Sunday November 25, 2007 at her home in Ames after an extended battle with M.S. . She grew up on several farms in the Glidden area and graduated from Glidden High School in 1953. She attended Iowa State College, where she graduated in Home Economics Education in March of 1957. Sherry married Robert (Bob) Allen in Laramie, Wyoming on April 20, 1957. She is survived by her husband a sister, Roberta Linn of Coon rapids, Iowa, a brother Kenneth (Deanna) Conner, Scottsdale, Az. and her children, Karen (Mark) Kerper, Marce Allen, Steven (Lisa) Allen and Christine (Charles) Baxter 11 grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Colleen Linn, and an infant brother, Richard.
Sherry accompanied and supported her husband through a twenty-year career in the Air Force, where she was active volunteer for many years in the Air Force Aid Society. She raised her family in eight different states living in some of them twice. She taught school in Plattsmouth, Ne. and substituted in the Ft. Walton Beach, Fl. School system. She was on the management board of the Air Force Aid Society thrift shop while living in Florida. After moving to Ames she worked for nearly twenty years in the ISU Department of Continuing Education until her health forced retirement. She enjoyed Bowling, and many other sports activities as a participant and as a fan, and never saw a bridge game she did not like. She supported and participated in the activities of her children and grandchildren from being the treasurer of the Denbigh Youth Football league in Virginia to being a 10+year fixture at dance recitals in Ames. She was an active and avid supporter of all things ISU. Sherry was a member of the Cyclone Club, The Order of The Knoll. She was past Worthy Matron of Laura Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, The Daughters of The Nile, Past President of Ames Chapter O, TTT Society. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Ames.
Those who knew Sherry are not concerned with the listing of what she did. They knew her for who she was – wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and more. They knew, and will always remember her for who she was, and what she gave. Services will be 11:00 am Friday November 30, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Ames with an Eastern Star Service will follow. The family plans to bury her ashes in the newly established Iowa Veterans Cemetery when it formerly opens next spring.
Memorials may be given to the TTT Society for the Girls Camp Program or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
