Nathan Joseph Smith Borst, 32, of Alexandria, Virginia, died unexpectedly at his home on August 4, 2014. A gathering of friends and family will be held at North Grand Church of Christ in Ames, Iowa, for visitation on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 5 - 7pm, and a service is scheduled at the church for Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 10am. Burial will be at the Ames municipal cemetery following the service.
Nathan was born on April 25, 1982 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Robert Borst and Becky Paris. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 2000 where he was active in band, choir, speech and theater. Nathan began his career with the Department of Homeland Security as a Presidential Management Fellow in July 2005. Most recently he was the Chief of Staff to the CFO of the Dept. of Homeland Security.
Nathan was a talented pianist and loved cooking, travel, building computers, and watching Star Trek. His sharp wit and sense of humor could always be counted on, and his natural curiosity and adventurous soul were inspiring. He was deeply spiritual, a loyal friend, and completely devoted to his family.

He leaves behind aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as numerous friends and colleagues from all over the country.
