Phyllis Poppen Ricketts, age 76, passed away at her home in Ames on August 5, 2016. A gathering of friends and family will be 4-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 9th at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. A celebration of life funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, with burial at 3: 00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rural Manson, Iowa. A reception will follow at the church in Manson.
Phyllis was born in Carroll on June 15, 1940, the daughter of Maurice and Pauline MacDonald. She grew up in the Knierim - Manson area. She married Roger Dean Poppen and he preceded her in death. She later married Charlie Ricketts. Phyllis cherished her faith, family, and friends above all else. Before retiring, Phyllis worked at Homeward Healthcare in Ames. She enjoyed volunteering at Mary Greeley Medical Center and Bethesda Lutheran Church where she was a member. Phyllis was a PEO sister and past board member of the Northcrest Foundation. Those left to cherish Phyllis's memory are her husband, Charlie Ricketts, her children, Terri (Dean) Haaland, Kimber (Roger) Jackson, Jim Poppen, Dave (Lexi) Knight; step children, Beth ( Mark) Dean and Steve (Linda) Ricketts grandchildren, Nick (Jen), Kiera, Ashley,Thomas (Chelsea), Drew (Emily), India, Dakota, Kennedy, Sydney, Karina: step grandchildren, Ryan (Abby) Megan, Aaron, Scott, Jason,Jenny: great grandchildren, Carter, Liliana, Brooks; siblings Shirley (Corliss) Poppen, Dick (Carol) MacDonald, Joni (Don) Hover and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roger Poppen and her sons, Tom and Curt.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to: Bethesda Lutheran Church of Ames, Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation and Northcrest Retirement Community.
