Edna "Eddie" Jacobs Wedin passed away on November 23, 2016 at the age of 92 at Windsor Manor in Nevada, Iowa.

Edna was born March 4, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, but lived most of her childhood in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. She met her husband, Kenneth Wedin, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Edna and Kenneth were blessed with four children before Edna was tragically widowed in 1963 at the age of 38, her youngest child only 3 years old. She proceeded to work hard to provide support and encouragement to her four children, seeing them all graduate from high school in Urbandale, Iowa and go on to study at Iowa universities.

After retiring from a long career as a dermatology nurse in Des Moines, Iowa, Edna moved west to Ventura, California. She then began a life of community service through organizations such as
Project Understanding, the Area Agency on Aging, and Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, for which she served as the Executive Director. After 35 years in California, Edna recently returned to Iowa to live out her remaining days.

Edna is survived by sons Kenneth Wedin, Jr. and Robert Wedin, daughters Heather (Wedin) Penney and Laurel (Wedin) Williams, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lucille Jacobs; her husband, Kenneth Wedin; and her sisters, Anne Gavin and Lou Bunner.

Edna loved literature and was an avid reader as well as a writer of short stories and poetry. She enjoyed music, from Tony Bennett to Andrew Lloyd Webber to Ludwig van Beethoven. She was talented at embroidery, needle pointing, knitting and crocheting. She collected and studied primitive and early-American antiques. She was a fantastic cook whose recipes will pass down for generations to come.

Edna's ashes will be laid to rest next to her husband, Kenneth, at Riverside Cemetery near her beloved Flambeau River in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. The family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice or to Habitat for Humanity, www.habitat.org, 1-800-HABITAT.
