Ellen L. Ness, age 75, of Story City, Iowa went to be with her Lord and Savior with her family by her side at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa from injuries sustained from a traumatic anoxic event on January 30, 2017. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at St. Petri Lutheran Church located at 804 Grand Avenue in Story City, Iowa with funeral services at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be at Mamerlund Cemetery east of Randall, Iowa.
Ellen was born April 24, 1941 to Arnold and Doris Hansen in Callender, Iowa where she was baptized in the Danish Lutheran Church. The family then moved to Lehigh, Dayton, Iowa finally settling in Jewell, Iowa where she graduated high school. She married Arden "Paul" Ness on October 29, 1961 in Jewell. Ellen and Paul were blessed with four children: Diana (Kevin) Keech, Douglas (Kim) Ness, Darlene (Matthew) Schoon, and Donna (Jason) Wendt; seven grandchildren: Levi Keech, Brittiny Ness, Mariah Keech, Nicole Ness, Jenna Wendt, Addison Wendt, and Jadon Schoon; and one great-grandson, Jeffery Dean Richardson III.
Ellen is also survived by her sister, Anna (Norman) Hetland; brother, Jacob (France) Hansen; and sister-in-law, Kris Hansen, as well has other in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Ellen's priority and most important job was being a mom, and later, grandma. She was employed at Bourne's, prior to motherhood and finished her career at Donnelley Corporation. She was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, where she and Paul were church custodians for over 17 years.
Ellen and Paul enjoyed camping with family and friends and later joined the Coachman RV Group Chapter 241, eventually becoming the Chapter Representatives, and later, President and District Representatives for the State. With Paul by her side, she enjoyed watching camping units arrive at the rally sites. She considered these her best years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul Hansen and Keith Hansen, sister Velma Hull and grandson, Skyler Ness-Keller in 2016.
Memorials may be directed to: St. Petri Lutheran Church designated for a new outdoor sign for the church.
