Richard Bowman age 86, of Ames Iowa, passed away December 29, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2nd at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. The memorial service will be January 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way Ames, Iowa. Burial will take place at Dayton Cemetery in Dayton, Iowa following the service.

Richard Lawson Bowman was born on May 31, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to parents Ralph and Stella Bowman of Dallas Center, Iowa. He attended grade school in Garner, Iowa and graduated from Dallas Center High in 1948. He attended Iowa State University.

He was united in marriage on September 2, 1950 to Shirley Joan Snyder, they were blessed with two sons, Ronald and Dan. Richard and Shirley farmed for their first 10 years in Harcourt, Iowa. On January 1, 1960 he started working for Iowa State University Farm Services until he retired in 1994. After retiring, winters were spent in Mesa Arizona for 23 years. Dick also loved his time at the family cabin in Crosslake, MN. His pride and joy was being with his grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his wife of 67 years and two sons. Ronald (Candace) of Corcoran, MN and Dan (Donna) of Duluth, MN. He was blessed five grandchildren - Jacob Bowman, Lindsey (Jake) Draeger, Jennifer (Nick) Schadewald, Alison Bowman and one great grandchild, Estella Schadewald.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Stella Bowman of Dayton, Iowa and his older brother, Donald.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Ames, Iowa.

Watching Iowa State beat Memphis in the Liberty Bowl yesterday, I had to smile knowing that Dick was enjoying it on the other side of Heaven...he had a front row seat!

I always enjoyed talking to dick on phone about the weather and farming I remember us cutting branches on South side of farm in very cool weather and dick always working on corn crib doors. I better not forget his love for Iowa state would always get excited to talk Iowa state sport's.
