June Barbara (Munchow) Weltha was born May 6, 1950, in St.Paul, MN, to parents George A. Munchow, Sr., and Islah L. (Wildes) Munchow, and passed away unexpectedly at Mary Greeley Medical Center on May 3, 2018, just three days shy of her 68th birthday.
In her younger days, June liked ice skating and playing marbles with childhood friends. She was a 1968 graduate of Johnson High School, St. Paul MN, and enjoyed playing clarinet with the marching band. After high school, she attended Lakewood Community College in MN.
She married Conley Weltha on February 15th, 1969, at Trinity Baptist Church, St. Paul, MN. The couple along with their children, Wade and Andrea, resided in Ames for many years prior to moving to their acreage in rural Huxley. June was employed by the City of Ames; later managed her husband's business; and was a Registration Specialist at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny for many years, retiring in August 2017.
June enjoyed flower gardening, reading, puzzles, Pepsi and brownies; and, of course, s'mores around the campfire created many special memories. In addition she took great pleasure in listening to Elvis, 60's, and polka music. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them and attending their activities.
June was truly an unsung hero to many in her life; and her genuine kindness and beautiful smile will never be forgotten.
June is survived by son, Wade Weltha, Huxley; daughter, Andrea (Andrew) Carlson, Ankeny; sister, JoAnn (Stan) Swenson, Randall; and brother George (Patty) Munchow, Bartlett TN. Also surviving are granddaughter, Kaitlin Weltha, and grandsons, Alex and Avery Carlson; several nieces and nephews; numerous extended family members; and many friends.
June was preceded in death by her parents; and by husband, Conley Weltha, in 2016.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames. A fellowship gathering will follow at Heartland Baptist Church, 3333 Stange Rd.
Memorials may be sent to the family and will be given to Johnson High School Band Program and an Alternative/Naturalist Cancer Research Group. (c/o Andrea Carlson, 521 NE Robert Dr, Ankeny, IA, 50021).

I was very shocked to learn of June's passing. I worked with her at DMACC and enjoyed our visits. I thought of her often after I retired in 1999 as she gave me a dancing, singing Christmas cactus she bought at a garage sale. She knew I had singing characters for every Holiday so it was a passing joke in the office. Please accept my sympathies and may you find peace in the knowledge she is now with her beloved husband. I remember well the day June was born as well as the day she 'left'. And, in between all those 68 years all the special memory making times we shared - those memories that now offer a hug of comfort. As all of you, we shared many special times over the years - garage sale hopping and having our own; riding the ferry to Washington Island, trying to convince each other we weren't going to sink; the bonfires Wade always attended to, and of course the s'mores; ice skating on the pond-never fear, June bought extra skates at garage skates so no excuse for not having skates; more than once people referencing June as my daughter, or me as her mother! I'm only 9 yrs. older-she loved it! On our last 'field trip' together she seemed to delight in 'helping' me get acquainted with the Ames Public Library, and then on our last afternoon together, even though she was experiencing difficulty breathing she insisted we keep working the puzzle to help keep her 'mind on other things', as we shared one last pepsi together. Even in her frustrating health limitations she made the best of every day. She was the pillar even when sometimes she in fact needed someone to lean on. Here's to one special sister, my pillar, my friend-June!

Annie and Wade - your Mom and I were friends for 53 years, first meeting in the high school band in our sophomore year. We enjoyed many years of traveling back and forth between MInnesota and Iowa - watching our kids grow up. Your Mom introduced me to garage sales!! I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing. I do know that I will miss seeing her on my trips to Iowa -her famous smile, lots of late night chats and just having a dear friend to visit. I will miss her forever. Love, Jana

I had just started working at DMACC in the Registration as a part-timer prior to her retiring. I did not know her long, but I do remember her always with a smile on her face everyday and a laugh you will never forget. Andrea Walton

I will leave a fun memory of June. All my memories of June are full of laughter! Before working together in Registration at DMACC, we worked together in the DMACC Financial Aid office. The director and some co-workers were gone to a conference and June decided we should have our own fun while the boss was away. She proceeded to bring in a rocking horse and rope for lassoing, toy food cans, dart guns and a pin the tail on the donkey. She sat the horse and shooting gallery up back in the student record vault and we would go back on break and try our western skills out. Then she had me taping the Pin the Tail game up on the Directors wall just as the VP was walking by. I just froze and didn’t move until he got by. Never got caught! I will always remember her smile, mischievousness, our shared love of reading and her love of chocolate, Pepsi, and listening to the oldies. We lost a good one last Thursday, but Heaven just got a whole lot more fun! I will miss my partner in crime. Love, Kris Keller
