Eldon Guge, 89, of Ames, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at his home in Ames.
Memorial services for Eldon Guge will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM and continue to the time of the service.
Eldon Leroy Guge was born on August 15, 1936, in Nevada, Iowa and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Ames on May 23, 2026. He was the son of Guy and Hazel L. Zenor-Guge. He grew up in Nevada, Iowa where he spent his childhood and teenage years, graduating in 1954. In 1955 he then served in the United States Army in Vicenza, Italy as a Company Clerk in the 21 st Engr. BN. (MSL Command), being honorably discharged in the rank of SP5 Class in 1958. He then went on to have a successful career in the manufacturing industry where he then met the love of his life Paula Ann Trulin while working at Bourns. They then wed on August 8, 1959, and began their lifelong journey together.
Eldon enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and being an avid Hawkeye fan. He loved attending football games and one of his fondest memories was the Hawkeye game in Hawaii in 1984 with his wife for their 25th anniversary where they even got to take the team flight. Eldon enjoyed golfing, coaching, coffee with his friends, and being involved with his children and grandchildren's activities. Eldon was also a long-time music lover claiming, "Music got me through life."
He is preceded in death by his parents Guy and Hazel L. Zenor-Guge, his brother John Guge-Turner, his sister Alice Baldus, and his grandson Joseph Andrew Friedmeyer.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Paula Ann Trulin-Guge. Their two children Tina (Scot) Smith, Todd (Alaine) Guge and his ten grandchildren: Jacob Friedmeyer, Jessica (Brandon) Loop, Cole (Tessa) Friedmeyer, Callie Rodriguez, Kaleigh (Colton) Tibodeau, Madisyn (Daniel) Goodall, Lily (Syd) Finn, Erica Guge, Erin Guge, Avary Guge and great grandchildren: Jace, Christopher, Kinsley, Joanna, Violet, Estelle, Olive, Joseph, Miko, Oliver, and Sage.
I love you Grandpa. Forever will remember all the things you taught us girls growing up and even as adults. Rest peacefully
A great neighbor for over 50 years on Garden Road. Eldon always had a wave when
I drove by or stopped to say hello when we were both out in our yards.
