Leonard E. Reedholm, age 82, of Ames Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday November 21, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4-6 pm on Tuesday November 27th at Grandon Funeral Home, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames Iowa, including a Flag Folding ceremony at 6pm presented by the American Legion.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service and Masonic Service will be presented at the First United Methodist Church, 6th & Kellogg, Ames, at 11am on Wednesday November 28th.

Leonard was born December 4th 1935 in Boone, Iowa, graduated from Boone high school, and enlisted in the air force at age 17, where he served over eight years. He married Marla Jane Lounsberry on July 12th, 1956 and enjoyed a wonderful 62-year marriage.

Leonard served the Ames Post Office in multiple roles for 29 years before retiring as Supervisor of Mail. He was a member of American Legion Post #37, 40 & 8 Club, Arcadia Lodge #249 A.F. & A.M. of Ames where he was Worshipful Master in 1978. He belonged to the Za Ga Zig Shrine where he enjoyed driving parade cars with the Story County Shrine Club and driving many children to the Shriners Hospital for Children for treatment in St, Paul, MN. He also met with old friends at the Hunt & Fish Club of Boone County Iowa.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and could often be seen at the Hy-Vee in Ames enjoying coffee and breakfast with a group of friends. Leonard is survived by his wife Marla, sons Ron (Belem) Reedholm and Rick Reedholm, daughter Juli (Jeff) Tostlebe, grandchildren Jayson Tostlebe, Jaime Reedholm, Zach Reedholm, Joshua Tostlebe, Jessame Kaniaru, Ashley Reedholm, Jennifer Tostlebe, Kevin Reedholm, and Tony Reedholm, 10 great-grandchildren, sister Elna Friesen and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dorothy Pattschull.

Leonard and Marla traveled to China, Mexico, Scandinavia, Canada, and all 50 states. Leonard liked golfing, fishing, Jimmy's Coney Island, Dairy Queen, and occasionally eating buffet at Prairie Meadows. He loved his furry friends Bambi their first black Cocker Spaniel, Ginger the Weimaraner, Zessica and Apache the Dobermans, cats Hotspur and Sheena Bell Sickum, Sinjin, and Ava Jane.

Leonard requested donations be made in his name to his favorite charity, the Shriners Hospital for Children at donate.lovetotherescue.org, in lieu of flowers.

I have fond memories of Leonard. The jokes,laughter, compassion, honesty and integrity is what Leonard was all about. The memories my children hold forever in their hearts. Thank you Leonard for being a wonderful grandparent to Zach and Ashley. May the Lord bless you in your new life. We love you.
