Kathryn (Katy) Jensen Anderson age 88, of Madrid, died at the Madrid Home, on December 29, 2018. A funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at St. John's Lutheran Church 104 S. Market Street, Madrid, Iowa. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in rural Madrid.
Kathryn Jensen was born May 18, 1930 in Granger, Iowa. She was the daughter of Anton and Jorgine Muurmann Jensen. She is the second oldest of six children. After graduating from Madrid High School, she attended the Chicago Art Institute. Kathryn moved to Des Moines as a graphic artist, working at Meredith Publishing for three years until she met and married her life-long love, Ernest Anderson. In the next few years they farmed in Nevada and McCallsburg where they had their three children.
Eventually, farming gave way to a new adventure where they sold everything and packed up their family to head to California. Katy got the opportunity to work for McDonald Douglas Aircraft as a technical illustrator. Later, she took her skills and opened her own shop, Calligraphy by Kathryn, with her husband, Ernie. They retired to a lake house on Lake Nacimiento, near Paso Robles, California. A traumatic earthquake caused them to return to Iowa and to be close to family.
Katy is survived by husband, Ernie; their two sons, Stanley Anderson (Angelee) and Bruce Anderson; their daughter, Bonnie (Dwayne) Baker; four grandchildren, Gawain Anderson, Holly (Adam) Ring, Erik (Whitney) Baker and Lindsey Baker; four brothers, Laurence, Kenneth, Ted and Harold Jensen along with sister, Carol Jensen Mills; and many nieces and nephews.

We just found out about Katy's passing. We want to offer our condolences to Ernie and the family. We got to meet Katy and Ernie several years ago while visiting my sister Kathy in Madrid. Katy and Ernie lived next door to my sister. While visiting with them, Katy told their story of Iowa and California. Katy and Ernie had a good life as described by Katy. Katy was also interesting to be around. I enjoyed our conversations whenever they happened. Katy had a good life it would seem. We are thankful that we could be a small part of it. We will miss Katy, she was one of a kind. - Kenny and Wanda Richards
