Dale Leonard Hauge age 77, of Ames, Iowa died July 8, 2019 at his residence in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa with a graveside service to follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Dale was born August 22, 1941 in Grafton, North Dakota the son of Leonard and Anna (Sorensen) Hauge. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1959. He married Linda Torkelson on September 5, 1959.
Dale was a determined, hard-working man. He spent much of his time working in construction; especially drywall and insulation. With those skills, Dale was able to remodel and build many homes in Ames. He and his family made many new friends as they moved from one home to the next "project". And over those years Dale and family had many special dogs, favorites include: Mitzy, Pierre, Sandy, Schautzy, and most recently Buster.
Dale enjoyed many trips that included fishing, camping, and boating with friends and family throughout Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Canada. Auctions and garage sales provided Dale with a steady supply of bargains. He could sell anything from fishing lures to cars and trucks. Dale could shoot the breeze with just about anyone.
Poker, board games, and dancing at the Moose Lodge filled many nights with fun and frivolity. A good time was always had by all.
As the years passed, Dale especially enjoyed returning to Grafton, North Dakota for class reunions. He and his closest classmates got together almost annually for camping and fishing. They all treasured those close friendships that continued throughout the years.
Dale is survived by his children, Brian (Amy) Hauge, Tammy (Dave) Preuss; grandchildren, Scott Hauge (Allison Johnston), Kristina (Alex) Danielson, Devon Reese, Hanna Reese (Zach Williams); step grandchildren, Kely (Bruce) Hemann, Riley Preuss; 7 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, and a brother-In-Law Tom (Deb) Torkelson and his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Linda, and sister Shirley Hansen.

Le Milbrandt on Jul 11, 2019

So hard to say goodbye to those loved ones who were so influential to us in our youth. Dale and Linda were our neighbors and second parents to all the Holbrook children. Mom (LaVonna) and Dad (Frank) joined Dale and Linda in the frivolity and dancing at the Moose Lodge. Dale and Linda were always gracious with their home(s) and sharing fun and good times on their boat and RV. We have so many special memories of those blessed good times. Ames was a special place to grow up because of the friends who became family that were part of our lives everyday, like Dale and Linda. My heartfelt sympathies to Brian, Tammy, their families, and all those Ames friends at the loss of such a special man. I am sorry I won't be able to attend the services (Dad/Frank still in ICU in Bossier City, LA), but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of celebrating and grieving. When I told Dad that Dale had passed, he asked what happened and then said, "He was my best friend."
Yours in Christ, Le Milbrant (f/k/a LeAnn Holbrook).
