Marian Viola Cooper, age 97 of Ames, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020 in Story City where she was living at Bethany Manor. Due to federal and state guidelines for COVID-19 the family is holding a private graveside service at Ames Municipal Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Marian Viola Heald was born in Rolfe, Iowa the daughter of John and Edith Turley Heald. She graduated from Rolfe High School and attended cosmetology school. She married John Kolb in 1944 while John was in the Air Force and the couple had two children Linda and Ken. John Kolb preceded her on March 9, 1969. Marian then married K Cooper and he preceded her in death in 2004. Marian had a very strong Christian faith and enjoyed activities around her church. Marian did not let an opportunity pass her by to get her family together. She always dreamed of traveling and got to visit the countries of Ukraine and Germany with her daughter, Linda. One of her favorite places to visit was Minnesota to visit her son and his family. After 97 wonderful years, she was excited to go home and see her Lord and Savior. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Marian is survived by her daughter, Linda Kolb Rathje of Gilbert, IA and a son, Ken Kolb of Watertown MN, stepson Jim Cooper of Story City, IA; grandchildren: Tate, Austin, Elaina Marian (named after her grandmother Marian), Andre, Aubrianna and Alyssa and great grandchildren: Agustin, Justice and Jasmine.
