Paul Nathaniel Olson, age 27, of Grimes, Iowa, moved from this life to life eternal May 9, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines after medical complications. Due to federal and state guidelines for COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Paul was born October 5, 1992 in Boone, Iowa to Raymond and Rebecca (Roberts) Olson. He graduated from Ames High School in 2010. Paul made friends wherever he went and will be remembered for his special greetings and oneof-a-kind handshakes. Paul grew up and was nurtured in a loving and caring community. He received care from so many people who shared their special skills and support to contribute to his quality of life. His church family, school family, and many, many caregivers gave so much. Paul was an inspiration to many and reminded us of the most important aspects of our shared lives. He was beloved by all and will be missed dearly by those who had the opportunity to know him.

Paul is survived by his parents, Ray and Becky Olson of Madrid; brother, Joseph Olson of Nevada and sister, Emily Olson of Ames, as well as many other family and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his aunt, Lynn Chandler; maternal grandparents, William and Gladys (Brown) Roberts and paternal grandparents, Harry and Dorothy (Johnson) Olson.

Memorials may be directed to ChildServe of Ames, Iowa.

My sincere sympathy on Paul's passing. I remember seeing him in Heady Hall when he visited Becky at work. What a happy boy. I could see how much you loved and cared for him. Hope your family finds comfort and support in each other during this very difficult time.

Ray and Becky, I remember you bringing Paul to Adult Forum as a tiny boy. His regular attendance as an active member of Augustana made us all love Paul, with his joyful greetings and ethusiastic handshakes. He helped my grandchildren accept others with handicaps, and feel accepting of them. You were wonderful parents to surround Paul with so much love. God's blessings to you all. We shall never forget Paul, with his joy in life.

My heart hurts for your family. Paul was an amazing soul and he touched my life so much. I can't even put into words how much caring for him changed my life. His smile, firm handshake, and bright blue eyes would light up my day every time I walked up to the door.

Ray, Becky, Emily and Joe,
I am thinking of you all during this difficult time. I have so many memories and don't even know where to start. He was such a joy! I remember Hilltop, Boone Bowling Group, respite, childcare and on and on. I watched all your kids grow up! Paul brought so much joy to so many. He loved animals and talked about his chickens all the time. I even remember the day that Ray brought chickens to respite camp for the kids to hold and enjoy!
I am thinking of you all during this time,
Rachelle (Dittmer) Flory- ChildServe Ames Supervisor and now Manager

Hi Ray and Becky, Carol Boeke from ChildServe. I am so sad to hear that Paul passed away. He looks so grown up in his picture. What I remember the most about Paul is his big smile and of course the hand - shake. When he was younger he loved bubbles and I blew a lot of bubbles during our therapy sessions. He was excited to come to speech therapy and also excited to leave. What a way to live your life.
My thoughts and prayers for you as you go through this difficult time.
Carol - Speech-Language therapist - Ames ChildServe.

Sending our deepest sympathy to you and your family. After I told my girls, Stacy and Melissa, they also recalled a memory. How he would high-five other kids and was so sweet at elementary school! 💔

Paul always reminded me to find happiness in the present and to appreciate people in the time we spend together. I think those are things I often forget. He was a happy guy for the short time I knew him and I will never forget his joy.

Becky, Ray, Joe, & Emily, my heart goes out to you all. Paul was a sweet ray of sunshine. My favorite memory is watching Paul watch those chickens 🐓💛! Paul had the most beautiful blue sparkling eyes. The gentle and nurturing love you gave him really lit up his excitement and personality. I will never forget the wonderful Thanksgivings in Iowa with you all. Thinking of you during this sad difficult time. ❤️ Tara
