Bill's Memorial Service 08/17/2020 : https://vimeo.com/448907341
Bill Edmondson died August 8, 2020 at the Iowa Veterans Home at the age of 66, from complications of Multiple Sclerosis after a sudden illness. He is home with Jesus. Services will be held Monday, August 17, 2020, 6:30 p.m. at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 5001 Hickman Rd, Des Moines, IA. Masks will be required for services.
Bill was born in Council Bluffs, IA to Helen (Barrett) and Rollin Claire "Ed" Edmondson on November 13th, 1953. He grew up near Kelley, IA, and was a resident of Ames, IA, until moving to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown in 2011.
Bill served in the Air Force for 8 years, first as a lab tech and later as a flight engineer on C-141 cargo planes. He returned to Ames after leaving the service, where he met Debbie Sackman. They were married on June 25th, 1983 at Ontario Bible Church. Together, they raised two daughters, Jennifer and Amy. He taught them to always say "I love you" and so they were never in doubt that he did.
Bill worked for the US Postal Service for 18 years in Ames, where many remember him from the mail window. After leaving the Post Office, he transitioned to bookkeeping and preparing taxes. He returned to school, earning his Associates in Accounting from Des Moines Area Community College.
Bill loved music and the arts, and though he considered himself only an "appreciator," he always encouraged his daughters to pursue creative passions. He also enjoyed good movies and bad puns. Bill found his community as a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, IA.
Bill is survived by his wife, Debbie of Windsor Heights, IA, his daughters Jennifer of Houston, TX, and Amy of Windsor Heights, IA, and his sister Barbara Edmondson of Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Helen.
His family wishes to thank all the staff at the Iowa Veterans Home for their excellent and loving care for Bill the last 9 years, especially the Fox 1 and Ulery 6 units.
