Eric Peter Rust passed away on July 30,2021. He was the son of Robert and
Dorothy Rust. Services will be held on Sat., Oct 9, at 2 p. m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern, Ames. Visitation will be on Friday evening, Oct. 8 at 5-7 pm with family present at 6pm at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames. Masks are requested. Service will be livestreamed. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

He was born on February 19, 1969, baptized and confirmed at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. He grew up in Ames, Iowa where he attended Meeker Elementary School, Central Junior High School and graduated from Ames High School with the Class of 1987. After high school he received an Associates Degree from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa followed by a Bachelor's Degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Eric will always be remembered by his co-workers and employers for his incredible work ethic. He was dependable during his childhood paper route, years at Village Inn, operating his own moving business and the last 19 years at Mary Greeley Hospital. He often mentioned how he felt honored to work with such a great team of people in Dietary Services, most recently as a Coordinator. Eric had also served on various committees at Bethesda Lutheran where he was a member.

He always had a love of animals and nature. He learned many skills and earned awards in his years in the Boy Scouts. Family vacation trips were a favorite. Numerous trips were made to Wisconsin where he participated in canoe trips, hiked, and spent time with his relatives as family was very important to him. From a young age he was fascinated by weather and was very knowledgeable about meteorology. He was always interested in learning about new things and spent a lot of time reading and researching things he found interesting.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Robert and Dorothy Rust; brother Alan Rust; sister Sarah Enarson (Bill); nieces Bethany Muller (Jacob), Shelby Rust, Kendi Graham and nephews Ryan Honkomp (Alaina), Andrew Enarson, a grand nephew and niece as well as other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Eric Rust Dietary Education Fund at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames Iowa or to Bethesda Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
