Long time Ames resident, Miles Moore, passed away on April 12, 2022. The son of Richard and Lee Ann (Smiley) Moore, he was born April 25, 1951 in Boone IA. Miles's grandparents, Bessie and Earl Moore and Bea and Sam Smiley, were also from Boone. He enjoyed his childhood years growing up in Illinois and Wisconsin, where he graduated from Wausau East High School. He attended Principia College in Elsah IL, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. While at Principia College, Miles made many lifelong friends in addition to meeting his wife, Nancy, whom he married in 1974.

During the early years of their marriage, career opportunities took Miles and Nancy to Houston TX, Beloit WI, and Minneapolis MN. With each move and new opportunity, Miles was eager to learn, work hard, and achieve success. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led Miles and Nancy to Ames, where they opened a Computerland store on Main Street in 1984 and operated it for several years. Following that, Miles held various sales and management positions in Ames and the Des Moines area. His career culminated in Miles and Nancy opening Consignment Gallery in Gilbert in 2004. Miles loved owning and operating Consignment Gallery. He always said that it was the only job he ever had that he looked forward to going to every day. Miles enjoyed every employee, consignor, customer and all of his business associates. In 2020, Miles and Nancy retired and were fortunate to be able to sell the business which continues to serve the community. Retirement provided Miles with the time to enjoy many activities including composing music on his digital piano, flying remote control airplanes, studying the Bible, and having more time to visit family and friends.

Miles is survived by Nancy (Hansen) Moore and their two children and their spouses: son Courtney Moore and his wife Shaeli of Goffstown NH, and daughter Stephanie (Moore) Young and her husband Chris of Alton IL, his sister Laura (Moore) Wichlacz, his aunt Marcia (Moore) Montalbano and her husband Gene, sister-in-law Paula (Hansen) Wood and her husband Tony, nephews Cory Wood and his wife Sarah and children Rachel and Alex, Jeremy Wood and his wife Tami and son Riley, as well as many cousins and lifelong friends.

There will be a private celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider supporting a local small business.

Dear Nancy: We were SHOCKED yesterday (April 27th) to learn of Miles' sudden death! We know you are surrounded by the thoughts and prayers of your family and of many friends. We enjoyed meeting both of you through the Gallery; Miles was very understanding when we sought to show a few of Linda's mother's possessions. We have missed seeing you both there, and we had hoped to get together with you sometime this year, now that much of Covid has passed. Please let us know when we can be of help, if at all. -- Linda and Fran Beyea

Nancy, I am completely stunned at the loss of Miles! I can't put into words how sorry I am. I so enjoyed working with him (and you) back in the days while at Consignment Gallery. I pray that God will wrap his loving arms around you and the entire family. He was such a sweetheart and will be missed. Sincerely, Stacy Smith

Yu have my condolences Nancy. I always enjoyed seeing you and Miles in Gilbert. Bruce died unexpectedly last June 24 and while we were lucky to have had Bruce and Miles in our lives as long as we did; some days are difficult to get through. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.
