Jean Evans Sevey Buck passed away at age 86.

She was the daughter of Ben and Helen Sevey of Ames, Minneapolis, and Rancho Bernardo, CA. She is survived by her daughter Catherine and son Kevin of Ames, and son Brian and wife Rhonda of Carrollton, GA. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Tyler and Stacia (Derek) Wilson of Ames, Joel of Atlanta, GA, and Shawn of Cape Town, South Africa, and two outstanding great grandsons: Corbin and Rorik Wilson of Ames. Lovingly anticipated is another great grandson in Atlanta. She is also survived by a nephew Dave Sevey, wife Beth, and son James in Bentonville, AK. She was preceded in death by her brother Bob Sevey and wife Rosalie of Honolulu, HI and Lacey, WA, and nephew Mike of the Bay Area, CA.

After raising her family with their father Ben Buck, Jean was divorced, and moved to San Diego to be with her widowed mother. She received a B.S. from San Diego State University and a Masters from the University of Redlands. Her career included working for five Fortune 100 companies. She retired as an international Human Resources manager living in Belgium for Caterpillar/Solar Turbines.

She loved her family and friends, dog Gibbz and his predecessors. After many years enjoying San Diego and many friends, she recently relocated back to Ames, IA.

Jean was an avid reader, proudly reading over 80 books through covid. Jean cherished traveling, her friends, family, communities, and technology. She visited every state, many countries, 6 out of the 7 continents, and all the Presidential libraries. She was devoted to documenting her life. She detailed all her travels, the books she read, articles she enjoyed; all through daily journals and photo albums.

Jean only regrets that she never learned to spit like her dad or speak fluent French like her mom!

I once told Jean she was who I wanted to be when I grew up, full of life and fun to be around. I’m so glad we were able to have one last “Zoom” book club together. You will be missed.

I worked with Jean at Solar Turbines, she was a great coworker. So sad with the news of her passing. May she Rest In Peace.

Jean & I met and became friends during her time in Belgium. She was such fun to be around! We visited Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen & she convinced me to ride one of the attractions where you dropped straight down. As soon as I agreed she raced up to the ticket booth for the ticket before I could back out! Visiting her in San Diego she took me to lunch at a restaurant with a great view & a lot of very attractive out of work actors. You could always count on a laugh when you were with her. She will be missed - truly great friend & an inspiration to us all to go out and live every day.

I am so sad at Sandy's passing. As cousins we grew up at different parts of the country, but whenever we saw each other, we were friends, and kept in touch. When my sister Jane passed, we decided we were the two Sevey's left of our generation. God Bless her, and I pray the Lord helps you all get through this very difficult time. She was a special lady and I admired her a lot. Thank you for the pictures in her honor. Family was all important to her and the pictures reflect that.

Jamie Grant. I grew up on Ross Road and the Bucks were on Ontario we were backyard neighbors. Kevin and Brian and Kathy and I would play in when my mom was gone Gene was my second mother and what a great one she was. I remember climbing the fenceTo play with the boys and then going inside and getting some cookies. I just remember she was so calm and nice and I will never forget that! I guess life goes full circle I’ve stayed in touch with Kevin Staca and her husband Derek and their wonderful two boys. I will carry a wonderful memory of her as long as I live❤️👍

CandleJean has been such a wonderful friend throughout these 40+ years that I've known her. She was always so full of life and joy and the video demonstrates her zest for life and adventures. Her intelligence and happiness were truly contagious. The world lost a beautiful and kind woman, and I will miss her very much. I will always remember her, with love and appreciation, and she will somehow always live on in my heart. What a beautiful video of Jean and her family. So glad she got to spend time with her beloved family during her final years.

What a great tribute to a wonderful woman. Jean was a great friend over many years. She never missed an opportunity to connect when she was in town and I visited her several times in CA. She was truly one of those special people you could not see for a year and still pick up right where you left off. She will truly be missed!

I just watched the slide show of photos of Jean and her family and friends, and her many adventures. I have admired Jean for decades and valued her friendship. In recent years, after I moved back to Ames, I loved having lunch with her when she came to town for special occasions (most involving great-grandsons). 😊 Thank you for the slide show; it well reflects the good life she lived, and the many people who cherished her. (I was honored to see a photo I took of Jean, Cathy, Lisa, and Mason Buck at an Ames High alumni event we had in Yorba Linda, CA, just weeks before Mason passed away.) Blessings to her family and loved ones. She is dearly missed.
