Cheryl Rae Spear
August 22,1939 - November 24, 2022

Cheryl Spear (Fisher) of Ames, Iowa died on November 24th, 2022, at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at Turner Cemetery (1306 290th St. Montour, Iowa 50173) on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.

Cheryl was born August 22nd, 1939, in Garwin, Iowa to Kenneth and Juanita Fisher. Cheryl was one of four children, being the youngest of three girls and a younger brother. Cheryl was raised on the family farm in Garwin, Iowa and learned early on what it took to live/work on a farm. She could out work most men and was never afraid to get her hands dirty.
Cheryl met and fell in love with Russell Hale Spear. The all-star state football player from Tama-Toledo school district. The two went on to marry and to this union four children were born. Douglas (Diane Annette) Spear of Ames, Dianne Lynne Spear of Ames, Dennis (Rochelle) Spear of Fussa, Toyoko Japan and Dawn Spear of Iowa Falls.
Cheryl worked at McFarland Clinic in the Obstetrics department with Dr. Birdsall and Dr. Munson for over 36 years as a nurse. She was devoted to caring for others and had a wealth of knowledge both practical and book.
The farm stead in Roland, Iowa that Cheryl and Russ had established in the early 80's soon became the place that brought everyone together. Whether it was to tend to the orchard, football field size garden or to the many cows, pigs, and chickens that lived on the farm or to just visit and relax. Many relatives staying for weeks at a time, and almost always for the Fourth of July celebrations. Many kids, grandkids and great grand kids have memories of working or playing at the farm that will be forever cherished.
All though Cheryl succumbed to complications from a broken hip and Alzheimer's Disease that she bravely endured for over 7 years. She's no longer in pain and is no longer without a voice. May you tend to God's Garden now in heavenly peace.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children (Doug, Dianne, Dennis, and Dawn) 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and her sisters (Margorie, Elaine).
Cheryl is proceeded in death by her husband, Russell, her brother Dwight and her parents, Kenneth, and Juanita Fisher.
Following her wishes, Cheryl will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband Russell at the Turner Cemetery in Garwin, Iowa.

Cheryl was a wonderful person and neighbor. I would go to buy eggs and come home with tons of veggies and baked goods, and 2 hours later, after an extended visit. We shared our Birthday. Dawn, Sandra, and Chrissy, I am so sorry for your loss and how you had to find out that she passed, that is not fair. It is some people's way.

Aunt Cheryl made the best cinnamon rolls. She had the best laugh. I hope her and Uncle Russ are playing cards with Dad and Pat, laughing and telling stories like they used to.

Cheryl was an amazing woman.. I worked with her in the OB/Gyn department for years. We all enjoyed her delicious treats especially her cinnamon rolls. She didn't have recipes but could tell you how to cook any kind of meal. She kept us all well stocked with her farm fresh eggs. She was always so kind to everyone she met or talked to on the phone. Patients always felt better after a phone call with Cheryl. Cheryl, rest in peace. Love ya my friend. Krista Sheehan

Having worked with Cheryl for many years at McFarland Clinic, I have wonderful memories of her! I admired her work ethic, her kindness and most of all her friendship! She always had good advice that I will always treasure. Doug, Diane, Dennis and Dawn, she was so proud of all of you! May you all find peace and comfort in the days ahead!
