Merl Core, age 99, died at Israel Family Hospice House on December 28, 2022. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Farm Creek Cemetery in Henderson, Iowa at 11:30 a.m.

Merl Roscoe Core was born July, 1, 1923, in the Wheeler Grove area near Carson, Iowa, to Milbern R. and Norma Osler Core. He graduated from Henderson Iowa High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps from 1942 through 1945. He was married to Betty Millen in Red Oak, Iowa, August 5, 1944. He was an air traffic controller at the Omaha airport before he bought into a farm implement business in Henderson, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1957 and taught in the Aero E department for one year before joining the Atomic Energy Commission where he worked until he retired in 1986.

He was a member of the Arcadia Lodge 249 A.F.& A.M and the American Legion Post 37, Ames, Iowa and a charter member of Ames Golden K Kiwanis.

Merl is preceded in death by his parents, infant twin daughters, his son, Merl Robert and his wife, Betty, brother Cecil, and sister Vivian Cima.

Merl is survived by his children: Ellen (Alan) Franken of Carmel, IN, William (Lynda) of Elgin, OK, John (David Houy) of Ames, Iowa, and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Core of Omaha, NE, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
