Charles Oberman, age 61, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at the Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames on Friday, February 17, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.

Charlie was born to Charlene Clement Oberman and Robert Oberman in January, 1962, and raised in Humboldt, Iowa. He attended Humboldt High School and was active in school sports, including football and wrestling. After graduation, he attended Iowa State University for a year, and then joined the work force. For most of his working life, he was employed by GE Capital Fleet in Eden Prairie, MN. He was recognized early on for his innovation and creativity, and rose quickly through the ranks into management. After GE Capital Fleet was purchased by Element Fleet Management in 2015, Charlie helped the company through a difficult transition, and finally left his position in 2018.

Charlie met his wife, Dawn Sattler, through work, and they were friends for several years before finally becoming a couple. They were joined in married in 2010, and made their home in Bloomington, Minnesota until moving to Ames in 2021. Charlie was a loving husband, and told his family that Dawn was his "everything." He enjoyed getting together with friends, neighbors, and family, and grilling everyone a good steak. One of his biggest joys was the companionship of his dogs. He and Dawn fostered several animals over the years, and remain loyal supporters of the ASPCA.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Carl Lippolt; and niece, Courtney Parker. He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn; brother, Mike Oberman of Humboldt, IA; sister Pat Parker of Ames; nephew Devon (Amber) Oberman of Arnold's Park, IA; and nieces, Melinda (Zach) Hamann of Ankeny, IA and Melissa (Chad) Spencer of Lenexa, KS.

I had the honor of being one of Charlie’s friends from a very young age and all through high school. We enjoyed all types of sports together, riding snowmobiles, music, cars and various other activities young kids did in a small town. Charlie was always the one who gave his all in everything he did and wasn’t afraid of putting his body at risk in sports like football and wrestling. He was a true competitor!

Unfortunately, we grew up in an era where social media didn’t exist and we lost contact with each other after graduation. The news of Carlie’s passing makes this situation even more sad to me. I’m really pleased to read comments about him from others that reflects his youthful personality and commitment continued throughout his life.

My sincerest condolences to the entire Oberman family. May our fond memories of him bring a smile to us in the days ahead. Rest in peace my friend.

Sending my condolences to you Dawn and the Oberman family. Charlie was my first manager at GE Fleet, a trusted mentor and a friend during our time together. I have the fondest memories of Charlie. Sending prayers to you all!

I worked with both Charlie and Dawn for many years. Before Charlie became a manager, it was clear that he paid attention to the details. He was always quick to identify a solution to set up a customer after a complex sale with our commercial team. Given his expertise, he was often sought out as resource for an idea on how to solve a problem. He could make the PFM work. :-)

My sincere condolences to Dawn and Charlie's family. I have often missed his light-hearted approach at work. I can only imagine how he will be missed by those closest to him.
