Patricia Ann (Shiery) Popelka was born on March 20, 1934, in Adel, Iowa to Albert and Ester (Grow) Shiery. Patty passed away on November 20, 2024. Her family moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa where Patty graduated from high school. Patty was united in marriage to her next-door neighbor, Melvin Popelka on July 18, 1952, at the Presbyterian Church in Omaha, NE. Melvin was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 5, 1952.

Patty enjoyed dancing, especially Polka, Round Dance and Square dancing. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Patty was a member of the First Christian Church, where she and Melvin were very active throughout the years.

Patty is survived by children: David (Sandy) Popelka of Ames, Daryl (Elena) Popelka of Oskaloosa, and Susanne (Pete) Garrett of Ames; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Amanda) Popelka, Kristofer (Dawn) Popelka, Kraig Popelka, Kindra (David) Mahowald, Roxie Popelka, and Casey Popelka; 9 great-grandchildren. A brother, Fred Shiery and sister-in-law, Shirley Shiery, and many nieces and nephews. Patty is predeceased by Melvin (2019), her parents Albert and Esther Shiery, Jacquelyn Shiery (sister), Charles and Raymond Shiery (brothers).

Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church in Ames (611 Clark Ave, Ames, IA 50010) at 1:00 p.m. Friday November 29, 2024. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
