Patti Jean Nervig, age 86 of Ames, Iowa passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Bickford of Ames on December 31, 2024. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery in the Spring.

Patti was born on December 20, 1938, in Ames, Iowa to Ralph and Aletha (Holmes) Miller. She attended school in Ames, graduating from Ames High in 1957. She was active in cheerleading and theater while in high school. This was the foundation of her lifelong love of song and dance. Patti married her high school sweetheart John Nervig on November 30, 1957. They were inseparable for 64 years until his death in 2022. Together they raised three sons. Patti's most treasured role in life was being 'Nanny' to her grandchildren Nate and Raegan.

Patti worked in the attendance office at Ames High School for five years, Iowa Benefits Insurance Company for eighteen years, and Story Construction Company for two years, retiring in 2002. Her years working at Ames High School coincided with her children's high school years, befriending many of their classmates. Patti and John were lifelong members of Bethesda Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed volunteering at the Bethesda Clothing Room for many years.

Patti is survived by her three sons, Mike (Amy) Nervig of Olathe, Kansas, Steve Nervig of Ames, and Dave Nervig of Lino Lakes, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Nathan Nervig and Raegan Nervig, both of Ames; and brother, Michael Miller of Manhattan, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Phyllis Gardner of Salt Lake City, Utah, her husband, John, and stillborn daughter, Susan Jean Nervig.

Memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association.

Patti was one of a kind. The most genuine, caring, and kind person I’ve ever met. I’m so blessed to have known her. My children had the bestest grandma “nanny” and they meant the world to her and for that I’ll always be grateful. The astounding love and pride she had for Nate and Rae shows everyday in who they are and the kindness they put out in the world. I love you Patti, enjoy forever with John.

Patti and I Co Chaired the Bethesda Clothing Closet for five years together and she Chaired it for 7 years, We worked together as friends and never a disagreement on Anything. She was fun and energetic and cared so much about the people we served at Bethesda. I will Always remember those years with my dear friend Patti. What a Joy and a Treasure she was to have as a co worker and friend.
