Daniel Shaffer age 94 of Bethany Life, formerly of Ames, died on Thursday Apr. 24, 2025. A visitation will be 4-6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Bethany Life 212 Lafayette, Story City, with a burial at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Daniel Shaffer was born in Portsmouth, Iowa on April 24, 1931, the son of Robert and Nellie (Mayne) Shaffer. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He married Naoma "Toni" Lorraine Bryner on March 1, 1956, in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he was a police officer. The couple moved to Ames in 1962 where Dan worked for Bliss/Buck Construction, he retired from Buck Construction. Dan was also on the Ames Fire Department for a while.

Dan is survived by his children three sons, Daniel (Cindy) Lidgett, William (Amy) Shaffer, Robert (Barb) Shaffer, of Ames; four daughters, Danetta Hiatt, Lorraine "Lorri" Shaffer, Sonja (Steve) Stephan, and Lisa Lemon, 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife Toni Shaffer in 2007, and two children, Cathy George and David Lidgett, two grandsons, Seth Long and David Lidgett; one granddaughter, Bethany Lidgett; one son-in-law, Robert Lidgett.
