Steven Vandi, 75, of Ames, passed on the Kentucky Derbey, May 3, 2025 as if it was meant to be. No formal service are planned at this time.
Steven was born on October 6, 1949 to Sevia and Bonnie (Johnson) Vandi in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Steven would spend his early years growing up in Lehigh, Iowa and was a graduate of Central Webster High School with the class of 1967. After high school Steven would earn a bachelor's degree in business. He started working for PepsiCo as a young man and worked his way up to management. After 29 years he needed a change and worked for 3M in Ames, until his retirement.
He could be found enjoying his time on the golf course on nice days and in front of the TV cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones when they had any athletics on. He loved the Cyclones and never missed the opportunity to watch them. He also enjoyed Horse racing and loved the nostalgia and romance that can only be found at the track. The love of racing was not just for horses; he enjoyed any auto racing as well, marveling at the skills needed to win not only against the other drivers but the track as well.
Steven had a lasting impact on anyone that he met and will be missed by countless friends and family alike.
Left to honor Steven's memory are his daughters, Nicole (Courtney) Graber, of Peosta, IA, and Steph (Colin) Foster, of Florance, AZ, grandchildren: Elizabeth, Isabella, Alley, CJ, and Raven. He also is survived by his brothers, Mike (Shar) Vandi, of Lehigh, IA, and Kenny (Cathy Gustofson) Vandi, of Otho, IA.
Steven is preceded in death by his parents Sevia and Bonnie.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Steve was a coworker of mine at 3M Company and worked together in the same area. We went to several Iowa State football games together and golfed together many times. Steve was an excellent golfer, and was I fortunate to have Steve on my teams over the years! Steve enjoyed telling me about his kids and grandkids! He liked to travel around the state and around the country to see them!
I'm going to miss you Steve.
Vandi family, sorry for your loss. May the peace of God comfort you.
Sorry to hear about this. Steve was a great neighbor for many years.
