Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Born June 21st, 1940 in Ames to Craig and Helen Moore. Gary was a life long resident of Ames.
Gary died on April 29, 2008 after suffering from several health problems in the last few years. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survived by his wife, Sharon, a sister Norma (Roger) Schupp of Delaware Ohio, three daughters, Barbara (Daryl) Schlapia of Raytown Mo., Deborah (Shawn) McIntyre of Lee’s Summit Mo.
and Lisa Wiese (Jeffrey) of Hinton, Ia.
Also three sons, Kurtis (Tonia) of Boone, Kevin of Ames and Marcus (Rebecca) of Beaumont TX. and twelve grandchildren.
After graduating from Ames High, he worked at Bourns Electronics. He was the head inspector of incoming electrical components and parts for 3 years. During this time, he learned the value of quality workmanship and that remained with him for the rest of his life.
After leaving Bourns he worked at Carter Press. There, he did negative layout work and operated the largest offset printing press in Ames. While working there he was exposed to many graphics and type styles which later influenced his photography and artistic life.

In 1963 he started work at The City of Ames Power Plant. He retired from there in 1997 after 34 years of service.
Over the years, Gary, held several positions of honor in several organizations.
These include serving on the board of directors of the Iowa Horticulture Society and the Ames Utility Retirement System.
His interest in flowers and especially roses led him to successfully exhibit roses in many mid-west rose shows. He was chosen to serve as a Consulting Rosarian for the American Rose Society.
Gary enjoyed photography for most of his life. Many of his photos have been published in various publications. He also served as the “unofficial” City photographer for several years. He did many photos around Ames including the dedication book pictures of the new Water Pollution Control Plant and the transformation of Ames High School into the “new” City Hall.
After his retirement, he began helping others to learn the Internet,
Microsoft Office and most of all, Internet graphics.
In keeping with the families wishes, gifts and donations to the
Ames Historical Society will be appreciated.
Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
