Arthur "Art" Taylor age 85, of Ankeny formerly of Ames died Monday April 27 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines. A visitation will be 4:00 -- 7:30 PM Friday, May 1, with the family present 6:00 -- 7:30 PM with a 7:30 PM Masonic Service at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way. A funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, May 2, at First Christian Church, 6 th and Clark in Ames. Inurnment will be at a later date in the church mausoleum.
Art was born January 12, 1924 in Butler, MO the son of Arthur E. and Eathel (Doty). He then moved to Des Moines, graduating from East High School and attended Drake University. He was inducted in to US Army during WW II where he received Good Conduct Medal, 3 Bronze Battle Stars and a Purple Heart. He married Rosemary Lamb August 24, 1947 at Highland Park Christian Church in Des Moines. In 1956 he opened Taylor Office Equipment and owned that business until he retired. Art was active in First Christian Church in Ames, a member of Arcadia Lodge # 249A.F. & A. M., and The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Club # 1606 of Ames. In 2007 Art moved to Mill Pond in Ankeny and was an associate member of Highland Park Christian Church.
Art is survived by his wife Rosemary Taylor of Ankeny, son, Paul (Julie) Taylor of Ankeny, Granddaughter Rebecca (Mike) Finke of Brooklyn Park, MN, grandson Jeffrey Moore of Houston, TX, sister-in-law Laura Lamb of Des Moines, nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his Parents, sister, Clover Baber, and brothers, Omer and Howard Taylor.
