Delbert Van Young's Obituary
At the age of 59, Delbert Van Young, peacefully passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 5:35 am at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Friendship Baptist Church, 2400 Mortensen Rd., #103, Ames, IA. With a private family burial at a later date. Delbert was born on October 7, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Lexington Elementary and completed his K-12 education at the Martin Luther King High School. After graduation, Delbert's love for cooking allowed him to become a prep-cook at a senior care facility until he relocated to Ames, Iowa in November 2001. For several years Delbert was a familiar face at Hilton Coliseum as he verified tickets for the ISU Women's Basketball home games. When you think of Delbert, remember that he was a faithful follower of Jesus, loved his family unconditionally and relied on his Friendship church family to provide his need for a loving, committed Christian community. Remember his smile and gentle spirit as he awaits our reunion in his St. Louis Cardinal's outfit and red Nike tennis shoes. Welcoming him with open arms are: His parents (William and Virginia Young of St. Louis), an older brother (George Ralph of Chicago) and an older sister (Juanita Sandra of Ames). Left to cherish Delbert's memories are sister, Edna Young (Wayne) Clinton of Ames, IA, his nephews and niece, Antwan (Tawana) of Jessup, Maryland, Danielle Clinton of St. Louis, Missouri and Aaron (Jessie) of Ames, Iowa; several uncles, aunts, great and great-great nephews and nieces, a host of family members, his church family and numerous friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care to be forwarded to Delbert's family.
