I got to know Fred -and his wife Carolyn- through Iowa CCI.
Why we had some private time at one of our gatherings, I don't recall, but Fred and I spoke at length, about the merits of the North Dakota State Bank, its history, its benefits to the people of the state. I've taken that information and have made it into an issue I support, at the Iowa Democratic State Platform committee, every year since. Thank you, Fred.
There was a memorable pot-luck at his & Carolyn's home, some years ago, where I ate the best potato salad, made with their own sweet potatoes!
In more recent years, I saw Fred weekly, when I visited a friend at Independence Village. Fred, most often, was in a chair facing the doors, awaiting Carolyn. He always had a kind and warm smile when he greeted me, tho he no longer remembered who I was. And, I always knew he was looking forward to Carolyn's arrival. Their love was beautiful to see.
Bright, kind, caring. Fred will be missed by so many of us, for so many reasons.
