Gary Lee Edwards' Obituary
Gary Lee Edwards, age 91 of Ames died at his home with his family by his side. A gathering will be held on Thursday, October 23, at 1 p.m. with a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames, Iowa. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, in Cumberland, Iowa at a later date. Gary was born on September 6, 1934, in Cumberland, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Anna Elkin Edwards. He graduated from Cumberland High School, He and his uncle started Edwards Garage in Cumberland. Gary then moved to Ames where he graduated from Iowa State University, and The School of Hard Knocks. Gary enlisted in The United States Army where he served during the Korean War and was in the Iowa National guard for 8 years. He married Gayle Breed, in Ames, Iowa, and the two of them enjoyed many trips, and the casinos. Gary was District Manager at Alliant Energy and retired in 1991. Gramps then went to Ames Trenching where he worked for several years. Gary was a member of Ames Moose Lodge #520, Elks Lodge #1626, Ames American Legion Post #37 all of Ames. Gary loved his family, he loved games of chance, gambling, cards, golfing, fishing, bowling, and a wager. Gary is survived by his wife, Gayle, of Ames; his daughters, Tammy (Stan) Hyer and Tina (Tim) Longnecker; his grandchildren, Adam (Nicole) Hyer and Thomas McCann; his great-grandchildren, Zakery, Brooklynn, Brayden, and Jordyn Hyer; great grandson, Kingsley, and numerous other family members and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, and an infant son, Mark, and sister Karen.
