Jeffrey Sobotka's Obituary
Jeffrey Sobotka, 59, of Ames, passed away on February 28, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church (611 Clark Ave, Ames, Iowa 50010) with a private family burial at Diagonal Cemetery. Jeff was born on April 29, 1964, to Melvin and Betty (Sevde) Sobotka. Jeff was a graduate of Ames High School with the class of 1983. After high school Jeff went to work for Iowa State University and was extremely proud to have hardly ever taken a sick day in his 38 and a half years of service. He always had a smile on his face and loved to joke with his family and friends. He enjoyed being able to walk to First Christian Church from his house every Sunday and he enjoyed volunteering for any role the church had available. Although he never had any children of his own, he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, and he would be sure to let them know how much he cared for them. That bond he had with his family was truly remarkable, Jeff loved the holidays and getting the opportunity to catch up with everyone was something he looked forward to, and the leftovers. Ask anyone who had ever met Jeff and they would say he always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye that will not be forgotten. Jeff touched countless friends and will be missed by the community. Left to cherish Jeff's memory is his: Brother, Terry Sobotka, his nieces, Kim Mollhoff, Cindy Rolph, Heidi Schermerhorn, Kirsty Sobotka, and Nastasya Sobotka. His nephew Shane Mead. His great nieces Danielle, Markie, Desstinnie, Savannah and Harper. His great nephews, Brian, Kevin. Daniel, Leeland, Aydan and Nikoli. He also had 6 great great nieces and nephews, Chase, Emah, Bryce, Kade, Anna and Elizabeth. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Betty, his sister Linda Mead and his brother Dale Sobotka.
