Joel Kent Martin's Obituary
Joel K. Martin 61 of Ames died April 19, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A visitation will be held from 6:00 -- 8:00 p.m. Thursday April 22, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, with a 10:30 a.m. funeral service Friday April 23, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care with burial at Gilbert Cemetery. Joel was born March 27, 1949 in Harlan, Iowa the son of Ralph and Helen Knouse Martin. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for Electrolux until 2007 due to failing health. He married Jean Christian on April 30, 1982 in Ames, Iowa. The couple lived in Jewell until the summer of 2009 when they moved to Ames. He was a Ham Radio Operator and a member of the American Legion in Story City. Joel is survived by his wife Jean of Ames, children Jamie (Renee) Quist of Omaha, Megan (Matt) Piper of Johnson, NE and Katlyn Martin of Story City, four grandchildren, John and Jacob Quist and Maverick and Carina Piper, brother Tom Martin of Harlan and a sister Janis White of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Callie Martin. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe be directed to the family.
