Malcolm "Buddy" Pettyjohn's Obituary
Malcolm “Buddy” Pettyjohn, 85, of Oskaloosa, Iowa died Monday, February 15, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
Malcolm Beryl Pettyjohn was born April 20, 1930 in Marysville, Iowa to Walter Leroy and Elsie B. Pettyjohn. “Buddy” grew up with many sisters and brothers and went to work in the coal mines as a young man. He met and fell in love with Thelma Burke and they were married on September 27, 1948. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1950. Through the years they lived in Marysville, Melcher, Knoxville, and Attica. He loved spending time with his family, gardening, and hunting for indian artifacts.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa, Iowa; children: Bonnie (Richard) Ouellette of Ankeny, Iowa; Steve (Teresa) Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Randy Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and Sherry (Jack) Hall of Pleasantville, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren, sister, Verna (Donnie) Means and his brother, Lowell (Barbara) Pettyjohn.
The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel (1904 NE Ave. Lovilia, Iowa 50150). Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel. Cremation rites will follow services and burial will take place in Marysville Cemetery at a later date.
