Maxine Elsie Spurgeon's Obituary
Maxine Elsie Spurgeon, age 85, died at her home in Ames on July 26, 2021, with her family by her side. A private family funeral service was held at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care. Maxine was born October 11, 1935, in Norfolk, Nebraska, the daughter of Max and Elsie (Becker) Engel. She graduated from high school and married Dean Spurgeon on April 5, 1957, in Omaha, NE. Maxine and Dean owned the Uniform Plus Store, The Paper Store and Pump N Party Shop retiring in 1995. She worked at McFarland Clinic for 30 years ending her career at First National Bank in Ames. Maxine was active at Heartland Senior Center. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of Heartland Baptist Church. Maxine's largest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Dee (Chris) Ruggeri, Kim Cross (Bernie Schmidt), Greg Spurgeon, Jane Spurgeon (Dave Koopmann); grandchildren, Christopher (Charita), Ashley, Shannon (Jesse), Mackenzie and Tia; great grandchildren, Hudson, Harper, Cayden, Addison, Jaxon; and sisters, Nadine, Freida and Mabel. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; and sister, Mary Jane.
