We are so very sorry for your loss. Paul was such a good man and a wonderful vet and we count it a blessing to have had him in our lives. He was so kind an gentle when working with our livestock and the most patient teacher we have seen when explaining procedures to us and the students. We shall be praying for your healing hearts. My deepest condolences for your loss. I will never forget my time with Dr. Eness as a senior vet student at the Iowa State Fair the summer of 1984. It was one the highlights of my time there. All of us were blessed to have been taught by him.

Dear Margot and family,
I had the opportunity to first meet Dr. Eness during my undergraduate years at Iowa State, and I have a lot of great Paul Eness stories over the years. From the Sunday afternoon call to save the horse buried up to it's neck in quick sand at would be the future runway at the Ames airport. It resulted in me receiving a "Margo original" painting of the incidence, which I still have. Let's just say Paul often "forgot" things from time to time. From coffee cups he would place on top of his vet truck's box, that would end up in the ditch outside his office, when he backed the truck out or the time he pulled a calf outside of Ames, only later to be stopped by an attendant at the State Fair, who handed him his wallet that he left on the truck bumper, after changing out of his coveralls. I had the privilege of carrying his "vet bag" at the State Fair, and working as his practice "partner" after vet school. I was truly blessed to have met Paul Eness -
Paul was a friend and colleague. He was a stabilizing force during our four years in veterinary school.

I was one of Dr Eness' many veterinary students. He was approachable, kind, and competent. I will remember him with respect and fondness.

It is with great sadness that we learned of Dr. Eness' passing. Dr. Eness was one of the most influential people on my career path, like I'm sure he was on countless veterinarians. As an undergraduate, I conducted a research project and as the veterinarian for ISU's Dairy Farm, Dr. Eness performed repro exams for my project cows. Dr. Eness possessed the ability to effectively communicate with both clients and students to provide a clear picture of the situation at hand in a kind way. Later, as I worked my through vet school, it was his influence that directed me towards dairy production medicine and eventually, back to ISU to be an ambulatory faculty member and the veterinarian for the ISU Dairy. His kind and compassionate practice of veterinary medicine and demonstration of service to his clients was instrumental to me and thousands of today's veterinarians. Paul, thank you for being such a great mentor! Thank you for sharing him with us all. God bless. Pat and Kelly Gorden
Margot and family: I always enjoyed seeing Paul and his family at county and state fair. Paul and Margo were also so friendly and positive. We had a lot of fun times at the fairs. You have a special family and Paul will be missed as the head of it. I wish you all peace and comfort. RIP Doc Eness.

Dr. Paul Eness was a kind and humble man who used his intelligence and technical skills to mentor countless students, colleagues, and farmers. He was highly respected and admired not only as a veterinarian but also as a human being. He was exceedingly patient, acted with a great integrity, and served as a positive role model for everyone who was fortunate to spend time with him. I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to know Doc, to learn from him, and to work along side him. May your family find comfort during this difficult time knowing that he made this world a better place and that his impact will last for decades.

We will never forget all that Paul did for the Franklin Happy-Go-Luckies, providing pigs and lambs for fair projects, teaching us how to shear the lambs, bringing ISU students to our house to do vet work, and supporting all the kids with their 4-H projects. One of my (William) first Extension talks was to a sheep producers' meeting at Spencer. I rode all the way there and back with Paul, and first got to know him. I don't think my information was very good, but he was too tactful to tell me. Fortunately he was on the program as well, so the meeting was a success. The Edwards family, William, Jane, David and Sarah will always remember Paul's kindness to us and to so many others.
