Shirley Jane Sjobakken's Obituary
Shirley Jane Sjobakken, 76, of Ames, Iowa died unexpectedly at her home May 28th. Shirley was born in Manning, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Loretta Venteicher. Shirley was a graduate of St. Catherine's School of Nursing, Omaha, Nebraska and the College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois. In 1962 she married James Sjobakken. Shirley's Ames career started as a nurse in Mary Greeley Hospital's Intensive Care Unit and ended as a longtime nurse for the Iowa State's Student Health Service. Throughout her life she always continued to care for others. Shirley was a great cook, husband helper and delighted in gardening, sewing and making her beautiful handmade quilts. Shirley is survived by her husband James, children Mark (Tracy), Michael (Sarah), Monte (Kris), 6 grandchildren, and her siblings Leroy, Bob, James, Diane, Rick and Lynn. A visitation for family, friends and co-workers will be at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, Ames, Iowa on Saturday June 3, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation can be made to a charity of your choice in her name. A burial service will be held in Manning, Iowa at a later date.
