Timothy Gray's Obituary
Timothy Arthur Gray (72), of Ames, Iowa, passed away on March 13, 2023. A service will be held at a later date in Montana. Online condolences may be directed to: www.grandonfuneralandcremationcare.com Timothy Gray was born on November 3, 1950 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Thomas and Dorothy (Eydmann) Gray. He grew up in Casper, Wyoming and attended Natrona County High School, graduating with the class of 1969. He received his BA from the University of Wyoming, then moved to Ames, where he earned his MS in Mathematics and PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Iowa State University in 1981. He continued to work at ISU for the duration of his career, at the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation. When not working he had a passion for spending time in the mountains of Wyoming and Montana with his family, and taking his dogs for long walks in Ames. He loved photography, eclectic music, and being a very silly dad/grandpa. He was also active in Story County bowling leagues for over 30 years, once bowling a perfect 300! Left to cherish Tim's memory is his wife, Betty Wells; daughters Stephanie Rose and Elaine Wells-Gray; grandchildren Adelae Rose, Isaac Sprouse, and Calvin Sprouse; a sister, Susan Taucher; and brothers Paul and Chris Gray. Tim is preceded in death by his mother (Dorothy), father (Thomas), and nephew (Spencer Gray). Memorial donations may be made to: Ames Animal Shelter, Story County Animal Shelter, Boone Area Humane Society, or another shelter of your choice.
