Don was such an amazing guy, I was lucky to have him as a boss, mentor, and friend for many years. He took a chance hiring me to work in the Ames Lab accounting office,
patiently overseeing my on the job training, encouraged me to take classes and supported promotions. He was also fun-loving and we had many good times at work and outside of work. I will always remember one day when he drove us up to a small town locker at 4 am to pick up a pig in the trunk of his Oldsmobile for an Ames Lab pig roast. We had many group get togethers after work either at a park in the summer or a happy hour someplace, playing games and having fun.
He and the other managers, Dale, Louie, Les, Tom, Jerry, also hosted many Christmas parties and annual summer BBQs.
He had so many interests and there was nothing Don couldn't do. He had such a great sense of humor and I will miss our visits. My condolences to you Connie, Julie, Donna and your families.
