Donald Lee Heim's Obituary
Donald L. Heim, age 87 of Ames, IA passed away on February 11, 2023. A memorial service will be held at the Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 10:30am. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Don was born to Lewis and Oral Heim (Heng) on February 4, 1936, in Humboldt, IA. He graduated from Lincoln High School and received an associate degree from AIB in Des Moines, IA. He worked as the Chief Accountant at Ames Laboratory (ISU) for 40 years. Don married Kathleen McDonald in 1963. To this union two daughters were born, Julie & Donna. Kathy passed away in 1992. In October of 1994 Don married Connie Dowling. Don enjoyed many things such as: traveling, playing golf, watching sports (especially ISU and the Chicago Cubs), seeing friends at the Elks Club, and playing card games with friends & family. Don is survived by his wife Connie, daughters; Julie (Bobby) Cattanach and Donna (Jamie) Ostrander, step-son Sean (Jenna) Dowling, and grandchildren; Katie Cattanach, Gradyn & Grace Dowling, and Hailey & Allison Ostrander. Sister Gina Waters, sisters-in-law Deloris Heim and Sheryl (Len) Pierce and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his wife Kathy, brothers: Gerald, Floyd, and Roy, sister Caryl Gene and brother-in-law Russ Waters.
