H. Dieter Dellmann, 92, passed away on September 15, 2023, at his home with his loving wife by his side. A private service will be held at a later date. A public celebration will be held on Friday, October 27, from 5-6:30 PM, at Reiman Gardens (1407 University Blvd, Ames, IA 50011). "Please come as you are". Dieter Dellmann was born to Hugo and Elisabeth (Beckers) on June 6, 1931, in Berlin, Germany. He graduated from high school in Saarbruecken, Germany. After his primary education, he continued his studies in Paris, France, where he graduated with the title of Docteur Veterinaire. He received his Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine in Munich, Germany, and taught Veterinary Anatomy at Iowa State University for 21 years. He was named Clarence Harley Covault Distinguished Professor and was also an elected member of the French National Academy of Veterinary Medicine. Dieter and Renate were married for 67 years, during which time they raised two children, lived in 5 different countries, and happily traveled the world together. Dieter loved his family, his wife's cooking, opera, biking, hiking and as he grew older, walking at Reiman Gardens. Dieter's favorite line from an aria in Beethoven's "Fidelio" was, "I have done my duty". He will be forever missed by his wife, Renate Dellmann; daughter, Annick (Steven) DellmannSchafer; son, Claudius Dellmann; grandson Alex Dellmann; granddaughter, Carlie Dellmann and their mother, Ondrea; brother, Klaus (Ingrid) Dellmann; brother-in-law, Gerhard (Claudia) Hofmann as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He never held a grudge and never knowingly hurt anyone. He was a kind and gentle gentleman.
