A visitation will be 4-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in the Sarah Barlow Lounge, (Please use the South doors) 159 Sheldon Ave., Ames, Iowa. Funeral service for Sandra, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Sandy was born September 27, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa to Ray and Reba Blagg Hart. She graduated from Bondurant High School in 1958 and from Iowa State University in 1962 with a degree in Child Development and Home Economics. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority where she served in many positions. She was always proud of her Delta Zeta heritage. She met Richard Ewers Horton on an arranged blind date for the Fall Registration Dance at the ISU Memorial Union and the rest is history. The couple married on August 26, 1962 at the Bondurant Christian Church. They celebrated their 60th Anniversary this past August. They made their home in Ames where Sandy and Dick started D&D Digital Systems. D&D specializes in sorority and fraternity recruitment and is also the national matching center for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In 1992 Sandy was recognized as the Woman Entrepreneur of the year by the Ames Chamber of Commerce. Sandy was a member of Collegiate Presbyterian Church, PEO, Iowa State Alumnae Association, and Ames Golf and Country Club. She served as Delta Zeta recruitment advisor and started the Big Brother/Big Sister Sibling Classes at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Sandy and Dick enjoyed all things Iowa State. They were Cy's Favorite Alums in 2003. They were honored to be awarded the Iowa State Alumnae Medal in 2011. In 2018 they were awarded the Order of the Knoll Faculty and Staff Award. Sandy is survived by her husband, Dick Horton of Ames, her children, Jay (Molly) Horton, and their twin sons, Charlie and Jaxon, of San Antonio, TX, Lisa (Chad) Snyder and their children Britta and Brock of Ames, sister Sue (Dean) Longnecker, of Johnston, brother, Charles (Buffy) Hart of Ankeny, and many nieces and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Reba Hart, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Cornelius Hutton, sister-in-law Eleanor Smith and her father and mother-in-law Charles and Dorothy Horton. Memorials contributions made in memory of Sandy will be designated to the Sandy Horton Delta Zeta Scholarship at Iowa State University.
