John David Henderson age 62, of Boone (McCallsburg) Iowa died at his home unexpectedly. The Wake for John will be held 3-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10th at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way. His family and friends ask for you to come and celebrate John's life with them at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday July 11th at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames.

John was born May 29, 1951 in Ames, Iowa the son of Cecil and Betty (Burley) Henderson. He grew up in McCallsburg, and graduated from Nesco High School. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelors and a Masters in Higher Education. John was employed at The Ames Lab where he worked in the Director's office.

John was a lover of life. Everyday he was looking for new things to see. Creations of God's hand more wondrous then he had ever seen before. He loved to go to the river and fish with his son, whether they caught anything or not. He loved to play music by himself and with some of the best friends a man could have. He loved to be out in nature, whether it was by the river or in the wood. He was solitary man at times, but he loved every second he got with his friends and family.

John is survived by his son, Matt (Sara) Henderson of Ames, his mother, Betty Henderson of Story City, his brother Larry (Sharon) Henderson of Slayton, MN, nieces and nephew, Amy Henderson, Andy Henderson , Annie Henderson and her special friend Matthew Bartholomew and their son Brenner and his many friends.

John was preceded in death by his father Cecil Henderson.
He will never be forgotten as a son, a brother, an uncle, a daddy, and friend to all.

I met John when I went to Iowa in Dec. '68 to marry his cousin, Marcia...
While I really liked almost everyone I met (and there were MANY), John was the first "Kindred Spirit" I found there...
We thrived on the get-togethers over the decades and that I was able to get a major repair done to his 240-Z, (on a trip to see us in Northern California) for free really cemented it all...
I really miss the loss and deprivation of you already, Buddy...
I Love You.

John was a character, generous, helpful, and always had a smile. He seemed so happy with his life changes this past year especially. Will miss his daily rounds and pleasant word as he passed through.

John always had life's twinkle in his eye and a laugh waiting for you - which was a reliable constant in a fast moving day - among his other attribute of being reliable in his job.

John was one of the good guys in the NESCO class of 1969 and at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. He was a good talker, but also an amazing listener. My sympathy to the family.

John and I were friends in college. I remember his smile and his honest warmth and love for all. I loved playing music with him even though he was a gifted musician and I was not. He didn't care.
His joy for life was infectious.
I will miss him.

John was a classmate Nesco 1969..He was a friend to all..was not judgmental and if ever you needed someone that would sincerely listen it was John..He enjoyed his life and understand the path he was on.

CandleJohn was such a kind man who was always in a good mood. He went out of his way to greet me every morning, and really kept my spirits up. We will greatly miss him here at work.

CandleJohn came down every morning to our office and greeted everybody with a smile, comment and laughter. He would stop in at Hy-Vee every Sunday to say hi when I was working also. We should all embrace life like John did. Enjoy every day and find a reason to smile and then pass it on. He will be missed.

John was one of the sweetest men I have ever known! Funny, smart, caring, ever a twinkle in his eye and laugh in his voice... a truly joyous human being! Brother John, my only baptist (& no - that was not his church - his church was absolutely everywhere), you are forever with me while I remain earthly, and I'll catch up to you later on! John was always true to himself and to his friends! May we all be so good! Peace!
