Amanda (Shuka) Law, age 23, of Ames left this life and went to meet her Lord on Sunday July 21 after a 6 month battle with Leukemia. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday July 25, at Oakwood Road Church 2400 Oakwood Drive Ames. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 26 at the same location followed immediately by a graveside service. All are invited to join the family for lunch at Oakwood Road Church following the graveside service. The church building will be open an hour before the service on Friday for any wishing to have a moment to say goodbye to Amanda.

Amanda was born on April 25, 1990 in Ames to Robert and Rebecca (Peterson) Shuka. She was home schooled and went on to graduate from Iowa State University in Elementary Education with specialization in Special Education. She was married to Ben Law on July 16, 2011. She was employed at Anything Scout as the office manager before retiring because of her health.

Amanda had a true servant's heart born of her love for and faith in God. Her love was felt by many, especially by many children and her joy blessed many people throughout her life. She and her husband, Ben, were always at the front of the line to serve others. Amanda was a loving daughter and a devoted sister. She was always on the lookout for the well-being of her 4 younger brothers. Amanda was very industrious, never wanting to be idle. When she wasn't already serving others, she was busy making sure she was prepared to serve when the next opportunity arose. Teaching children, making baby blankets by the dozens and scrapbooking and crafting with the children that she surrounded herself with continually were just a few of the things that brought joy to her and to others. In the last two years, she delighted in being Ben's wife and creating a home with him, not surprisingly, a home that would allow them to continually host, serve, and bless others even more. Amanda leaves a selfless legacy of placing others before herself. Her faithful presence will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Amanda is survived by her husband, Ben Law of Ames, her parents Robert and Rebecca Shuka and brothers, Michael, Jonathan, Matthew and Stephen Shuka all of Ames, paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Shuka of Ames and maternal grandfather, Myrle (LaVerna) Peterson of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her Grandmother Wanita Peterson and Grandfather Walter Shuka.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with services for Amanda.

We welcome your online tributes to Amanda on this web site.

CandleAmanda was such a loving, selfless, and Godly woman; she showed this in countless ways, but it was obvious to me from the moment I moved here as she went out of her way to make me feel welcome. That has always been such a strong memory for me and I greatly appreciated her investing her time in that way. That was just the first of many wonderful memories I have of her and I have always been impressed by her and respected her greatly for who she was and what she did. I'm so sorry for everyone she has left behind. Her family has been on my mind and prayers constantly and I have confidence that God and His promises will be a steady rock for everyone as we grieve.

Dear Bob and Becky. No words are adequate enough to express how sorry I am to hear the news. I pray God will continue to give you and the rest of the family, the strength you need during this time of loss. My love and prayers are with you.

Bob, Becky, Boys, My heart sunk when I got the news today. There are no words to express how sorry I am. Amanda was a unique and beautiful person from the beginning. I will forever treasure all the hours we spent building forts in the lilac bushes, climbing trees, and swinging from the monkey bars. My thoughts are with you all.

I was very saddened to hear about Amanda's death. She was a student in a class I teach at ISU in the special education sequence. She was a bright, vibrant young woman who had so much potential! She was a joy to teach! My thoughts and prayers are with Ben and her family.

I had the pleasure of having Amanda student teach with me the spring of 2012 where we soon became friends. I enjoyed working with her immensely. Her beautiful spirit and joyful heart lit up every room she walked into. She had a special gift for working with children. I also had the please of meeting Ben and seeing the love they had for each other.

Amanda loved God and loved serving Him. May she now find comfort in his arms. Let us continue to serve others in Amanda's name.

CandleI am so sorry to hear of Amanda's passing. She was one of my very special 1st graders at Roosevelt. I remember her stopping by my house in the summer on her way to swimming lessons to say hi. Needless to say, she was a bright spot in my day! She will be lovingly remembered. May God bless Amanda and her family today and always.

Amanda was one of the most generous and kind person I've ever met. She was always smiling even when life was hard. She loved God deeply and followed Him with all her heart. I'm praying for everyone she has let behind. May God bring comfort and peace to her husband, her family and people that loved her dearly.
