Berdine Grace Breed of Boone, IA, formerly of Ames and Monroe, passed away on August 20, 2013, at the age of 92. A celebration of life funeral service will be at First Baptist Church in Monroe, IA on Saturday, August 24, at 11:00 am with a 10:00 am visitation time. A visitation at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, will be from 5:30-7:00 pm on Thursday August 22, 2013. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Mrs. Breed was a resident of Monroe for many years, moved to Ames in 2003, and to West Haven Community in Boone in 2011. The daughter of Neal and Minnie Den Hartog Jabaai, she was born April 2, 1921, at Otley, IA. She grew up in the rural Monroe and Prairie City areas, attending rural schools south of Monroe and west of Prairie City and Prairie City High School.
Berdine was married to John Jacob Breed on September 12, 1940. Prior to that, she worked at the Pella Corporation. Mr. and Mrs. Breed were engaged in farming for many years in Jasper County and moved to Monroe after retiring from the farm in January 1978. She also worked in the Prairie City bakery and as a Home Health Aide for Jasper County in later years.
Mrs. Breed loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed sewing as a hobby. Berdine was a kind and caring person and was a friend to many. She made confession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 13 and became a member of the First Reformed Church in Prairie City. After her marriage, she joined in membership with the First Baptist Church of Monroe. While living in Ames, she attended Heartland Baptist Church and after becoming a resident at West Haven Community in Boone, she enjoyed attending the chapel services there.
Those left to honor the memory of Berdine Breed are: three daughters and two son-in-laws. Marcene and Larry D. Renaud of Ames, Gayle and Gary Edwards of Ames and Jan Jungjohan of Ames; grandchildren: Brian and Tina Renaud of Dallas, TX; Kim(Renaud) and Steve Whitham of Ames; Abby Jungjohan of Iowa City; Tammy (Edwards) and Stan Hyer, and Tina (Edwards) and Tim Longnecker; great grandchildren: Aaron, Natalie, and Gabrielle Renaud; Owen and Olivia Whitham; Adam Hyer; Thomas McCann; a sister, Esther and Robert Aalbers of Altoona and a brother, Leonard and Leona Jabaai of Colfax.
Mrs. Breed was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, a sister, Matilda Van Zee, a brother, Marvin Dale Jabaai, and a brother in infancy.

Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church in Monroe or Westhaven Chapel of Boone.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Though it has been years since I've had contact with your family, I have many fond memories of time spent with your father and mother when I was a boy. May God grant you His peace during this time of grieving.
