Paul Morgan was born June 18, 1923, in Hudson, IA, the son of Barton and Catherine (Wallace) Morgan. He graduated from Ames High School in 1941 and from Iowa State University in 1944, in Civil Engineering. He married Fran Manning on January 6, 1945, in Larchmont, NY, while he was in the US Navy. Paul was a Lieutenant Junior Grade Seabee assigned to the Pacific Fleet in the Philippines Islands. The couple returned to Iowa where Paul worked with the cities of Estherville, Algona, and Des Moines for the Iowa Department of Public Health and received his masters in Sanitary Engineering in 1956. Paul joined the Iowa State Department of Civil Engineering faculty in 1953, moved to the Dean's Office in 1964, and was appointed Associate Dean in 1969. After serving as an administrator and educator for 35 years, he retired from Iowa State in 1988. A scholarship fund was established in his name to foster education for minorities and women in Engineering in Iowa. This scholarship reminds us all of his pioneering work to make excellent engineering education available to all students. Paul enjoyed traveling, activities such as fishing, bowling, and golf, and spending time with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ - Congregational in Ames.

Paul is survived by his children: sons, Jack (Randi) of Bainbridge Island, WA, and Mike (Genelle) of Pella, IA; daughter, Betty (John) Morgan Pittman of Parker, CO; grandchildren: Tom (Andrea) Morgan, John (Jessica) Morgan, Lisa (Anthony) Morgan Alvino, Sara (John) Morgan Shaffer, Kelly(Tyler) Pittman Kellogg, Jeffrey Pittman, and Jane Pittman; and great grandchildren: Isabella and Catherine Alvino, Benjamin Morgan, Samuel Kellogg, Mae Shaffer; and brother, Richard Morgan of San Antonio, TX.

Paul and Fran Morgan were close friends of my parents', and I have many very fond memories of them throughout my life! As a child, I loved being at their house. It was always fun at Paul and Fran's house! I also have treasured memories of vacations together at the Y Camp. Paul was a sweet, funny, enthusiastic man who clearly adored Fran and Jack, Mike, and Betty. I feel fortunate to have known him and to have such great memories of him.

CandleI remember Paul for so many stories that he shared, such as telling a couple misbehaving kids in Sunday School that their mother was going to wonder why they had to come home early.

I remember him being especially proud of his sporty Toyota. He showed up a few months later having traded cars. He confessed that the sporty model was too hard for him to get in and out!

I still remember his grand-daughter's Xmas wedding as the most beautiful I ever attended. The beautiful red/green/white plaid dresses with gold accents and the church was filled with the scent of the pine boughs. I also remember the errant little fake ring on the ring-bearer pillow rolling down under several aisles. I think Dot was on one side and I was on Ken's other side trying to get him from stop laughing!

Paul, it was bad enough missing Fran and now I'll be missing you. Be with God with your Fran in his glory. My prayers to your family members as they deal with your passing.

CandlePaul was a special friend to my dad, John Bath. He and Fran will always be remembered for their caring and support during the challenging times in my parents lives.

CandleMy thoughts are with Paul's family and friends. I was privileged to be his pastor for over three years and to officiate at Fran's service. He was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by many.
