Linda Sue Maddux, age 71, of Ames, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Scottish Rite in Des Moines December 10, 2013.

A celebration of life service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec 14, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way in Ames, with a reception to follow.

Linda was born February 19, 1942 in Grinnell, Iowa the daughter of William R. and Garlan E. (Potts) Welsh. She graduated from Montezuma High School. She then received a Bachelor of Arts from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. Linda married Jere Maddux on June 27, 1964 in Grinnell; they were later divorced. The couple lived in Kansas, Tennessee, and Des Moines before coming to Ames in 1971. Linda taught school in the Gilbert School district before she retired. She was a past president of the New Timers of Ames, volunteered at Open Line in Ames, Center for Creative Justice, AIDS coalition, and enjoyed many Bridge Clubs. She loved spending time with her family.

Linda is survived by: Jere Maddux of Ames, son, Andrew (Marlen) Maddux of Wes Des Moines, daughter, Katherine G. Maddux of Milwaukee, WI, two granddaughters, Keilin Wilson and Linda Wilsson, both of West Des Moines and a great grandson, Daniel Wilson, a brother, William R. Welsh III (Ruby) of Nebraska City, NE, sister, Deborah A. Gordon of Menomonee Falls, WI, a cousin Jane Ann Maddox of Crossville, TN, and she will be missed by her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Center for Creative Justice of Ames or the Ames Animal Shelter.
