Norma J. Lewis age 76, of Ames died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 3:00 -- 7:00PM with the family present 5:00 -- 7:00 PM Friday, October 30, 2009 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way. A 10:00 AM Saturday, October 31 celebration of life memorial service at First Christian Church in Ames with burial at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Norma was born Feb. 19, 1933 in Hampton, Iowa the daughter of Milton and Myrtle (Miller) Pyle. She graduated from high school and then went to Hamilton Business College in Mason City and attended a year of nursing school before she married Bennie Lewis on April 6, 1952 in Spokane, Washington. The couple moved from Hampton, then Nevada, before moving to Ames in 1976. Norma was employed at Bourne's before working at Iowa State University for the College of Engineering and later Veterinary Medical Research as an administrative assistant. She was a member of First Christian Church in Ames; she enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, baking, crafts and square dancing. Norma and Bennie belonged to several square dance clubs, Colo Red Hot's, Nevada Twirlers, Ames Cross Trailers, Double R Square, and Holiday Square, they were also members of the Story County Nomads and she enjoyed Iowa State Men's Basketball.
Norma is survived by her husband Bennie Lewis of Ames, children, Kathi Hartwig of Davenport, Steve (Patti) Lewis of Ames, and Karen (John) Howerton of Collins, 10 grandchildren, Allen (Kelley) Hartwig, Amy (Darrin) Haas, Jessica (Jeremy) Hayman, Ben, Tyler, and Rebecca Lewis, Leslie (Tracy) Geffre, Johnny (Kristi) Howerton, Brandon (Hannah) Buzzell and Shannon Buzzell, 10 great grandchildren, Elsie Mae Hartwig, Anissa, Lily, and Jeremy Hayman, Levi and Jaxon Lewis, Carter and Myajean Geffre, Dillion Howerton and Dylen Buzzell,
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Dear Bennie... I am so sorry to hear about Norma. I love you both so much and have missed working with her since I moved. She meant the world to me and my kids. Thank you for letting me be part of your lives over the last few years. I am so grateful you both took time to see Marc and Melinda dance. My thougths and love are with you.
Sally and I want to tell Bennie and the kids that our thoughts and prayers are with them. Norma Jean was a very special person to both of us and she will always have a place in our hearts.
