James Eldon Jarvis Jr. age 75, a longtime resident of Ames, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 at Hospice Family Care in Peoria, AZ.

Jim was born June 26, 1935 in Maloy, Iowa the son of James E. and Ruth S. (Balcom) Jarvis Sr. He graduated from Delphos High School in 1953, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he proudly served in the Korean War. He attended college at Maryville, MO and Iowa State. In 1959 he married Roma L. Witcraft in Des Moines. Jim worked at Sauer Danfoss in Ames in Logistics before retiring. Jim was a member of Ames Moose Lodge 520 and the American Legion Post #37. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, football and his season table at Prairie Meadows horse races.

Jim is survived by his wife Roma of Ames, Iowa; and sons Kevin and his wife Jeanette of Cedar Falls, IA, Steve and his wife Deanna and daughters Jana and Stacy of Wildomar, CA, Bruce and his wife Jennifer and children MacKenzie, Selena, and Joe of Story City, IA, his mother Ruth S. Jarvis of Story City, IA, and four siblings Ron, Sandra, Sharon, and Linda. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Eldon Jarvis Sr.

A gathering of friends and family visitation will be Tuesday December 21, 4:00 - 7:00 pm with the family present at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. A Celebration of life funeral service will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 10:00 am at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames. A graveside burial service will be at 1:30 pm at Redding Cemetery in Redding, Iowa.

CandleRoma, I'm so sorry for your loss. Ruth told me Jim had cancer a few weeks ago when I was at Bethany doing ladies' fingernails. I was shocked to read he had passed so quickly. Know that you and the kids are in my thoughts and prayers.

Words are never enough at a time like this, that's when Jesus is there to help. Jim was special to me. When I was ten, he drove to Mt. Ayr from Des Moines to take me and Dave duck hunting. I have never forgotten that act of kindness. Know that we will be prayer for all of you.
