John Henry Andreae age 88, of Ames, died Thursday Dec. 30th at his home. A gathering of friends and family will be 3:00 - 5:00 pm Sunday January 2, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way Ames, with a 11:00 am Monday, Jan 3 Celebration of Life Memorial Service at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Ames with inurnment in the church columbarium niche.

John was born September 23, 1922 in Volga, IA, the son of Henry and Selma (Piehl) Andreae. He graduated from high school was inducted into the US Army in December of 1942 and discharged in 1946. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1949 with a BS degree. He married Jeanette Jones June 11, 1951 in Lime Springs; John joined Lutheran Brotherhood in 1955 when they returned to Ames. He was a past member of Life Underwriters in Boone and Story County retiring in 1983. While involved with Lutheran Brotherhood he had the joy of inviting families to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church where they became members and friends. John was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church where he was past president in 1956 and sang in the choir. He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis, Barber Shoppers and Choral Society, and the Heartland Senior Band. John enjoyed being retired where he enjoyed golfing, bowling, singing, playing his trombone, and visiting with friends.

He is survived by his wife J. of Ames, daughters Mary (Mike) Rowley of Des Moines, and Jeanne (David) Updegraff of Dubuque, four grandchildren, Angela (Ben) Roling, Mark Updegraff, David Rowley, Tim Rowley, great grandson Joshua Roling, and a brother, Robert Andreae Shell Rock, IA.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Looney.

Memorials may be directed to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church or Heartland Senior Center Band.
