Jane Stewart Chapman, 97, died February 9, 2011 at Green Hills Healthcare where she resided.

Jane was born February 11, 1913 in Burlington, IA to Lillian Antoinette and Alfred Stewart Fear. She attended a private school and business college in Burlington. Jane married John Gordon Chapman on August 15, 1936. They resided in Indianapolis, IN, Burlington, IA, Des Moines, IA, and Cleveland, OH before Jane moved to Green Hills in 1995. Jane worked in libraries in Burlington, Des Moines, Cleveland, and Western Reserve University. She volunteered in the Ames Public Library and Green Hills Library. She was an avid reader and inspired both her daughters to become librarians.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1976.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Lynn (Roy) and Antoinette (Toni) Whitman (William); grandsons Robert, Jeffrey, and John Egolf of Cleveland and Walter Whitman (Mary) of Des Moines and James Whitman (Cynthia) of Seattle; and great grandchildren, Tyler Egolf of Cleveland and Martin and Rachel Whitman of Des Moines and by her life-long friend, Betty Cooper of Burlington.

Memorials in Jane's name may be given to the Ames Public Library Foundation.

The family will gather at a later date.
