Larry L. McCormick age 64, of Ames kicked the bucket Thursday May 19, 2011 at Mary Greeley Medical
Center. Celebration of life memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday May 28, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames with interment at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Larry was born Oct. 27, 1946 in Madrid, the son of John and Hilma (Erickson) McCormick. He graduated from Madrid High School in 1964 and attended Boone Community College. He married Sylvia Larsen on Aug. 2, 1975 in Royal, Iowa. The couple lived in Ames where Larry was employed by City of Ames as a Meter Reader retiring in November of 2010. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames; he enjoyed visiting on his route, never knew a stranger and afternoon cocktails.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Ames, three sons, Shawn (Rachel) McCormick of Slater, Shannon of North Liberty, Kevin (Krystle) of Lee's Summit, MO; two grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler McCormick, one brother Gary McCormick of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Helen McCormick.

Memorials may be directed to Food at First or Bethesda Lutheran Church Food Pantry.

CandleAnonymous once said "the best flowers are taken in the Spring..."

"Kicking the bucket" of flowers is perhaps even better...

Larry admired the song "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" - (as performed by Louis Armstrong). His personal charm was as sure as this.

My wife and I took a breath of unexpected shock when we learned of the news. Larry was our friend - and our meter reader too - but our friend first always. We loved Larry.

Please let us extend our condolences to his wife, his children, and their immediate family members.

Damn - I wish I would have recorded "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" as sung by Larry McCormick. I do regret that.

We remember him as a gentle true spirit - and we will miss him. Here's to you brother Larry~
